Koh Samui weather, area by area
Koh Samui is big enough to have genuinely different weather at the same moment: rain over the interior hills while Chaweng beach stays bright. The radar view on this page shows where the cells actually are, and the call underneath translates that into whether the next couple of hours are worth going out for.
It's also the arrival point for most visitors to the archipelago, so timing matters for airport transfers, the Nathon and Lipa Noi piers, and day trips over to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
Koh Samui weather by season
- January – March
- Generally the driest stretch in the Gulf of Thailand. Short showers still happen, but long clear windows are common.
- April – June
- Hot and humid with build-up afternoon storms. Mornings are usually the safest window for boats and scooters.
- July – September
- Mixed. Passing squalls roll through quickly — radar timing matters more than the daily forecast icon.
- October – December
- Northeast monsoon: the wettest period. Heavy multi-hour rain and occasional ferry disruption are normal.
Koh Samui weather FAQ
- Is it raining on Koh Samui right now?
- The card at the top of this page answers that from live radar, updated every few minutes, and tells you which coast the rain is on and roughly when it clears.
- Will it rain on Koh Samui in the next 2 hours?
- Island Pulse tracks radar cells and their direction of travel, so the page gives a clock-time estimate for arrival instead of a vague daily icon. Beyond about 2 hours it switches to model forecast.
- When is the rainy season on Koh Samui?
- The Gulf islands run on the northeast monsoon, so October to December is the wettest period — unlike Phuket and the Andaman side, which peak mid-year.
- How accurate is the forecast?
- Short-range radar nowcasting is reliable for roughly the next 1–2 hours. The 7-day outlook is model data and, as the card notes, is indicative only beyond three days.
